Description |
This course includes several independent chapters and exercises, included in the chapters or independent, calling for more global knowledge.
The topics covered are the following:
I. Basic principles of NMR spectroscopy as well as important aspects such as relaxation, sensitivity, quantitative NMR.
II. Heteronuclear NMR, including quadrupolar nuclei.
III. Second order effects, including simulation exercises.
IV. 2D NMR spectroscopy, including discussions on the measurement time of the different 1D & 2D NMR experiments and their feasibility for routine measurements.
V. Homonuclear and heteronuclear NOE effect.
VI. NMR data acquisition and processing, including data processing exercises.
VII. Concluding chapter, aiming to show how to reduce the risk of deducing wrong structures from NMR data.
Exercises, consisting in assigning signals, proving structures and their stereochemistry.
The exercises should help the students to independently analyze complex 1D and 2D NMR spectra. During the exercises, the strengths / weaknesses of the different NMR methods are discussed and highlighted.
Prerequisites: lectures "Spectroscopic Methods for Structure Elucidation I + II (NMR, MS)" or similar lectures.
