Title Psychological Assessment (lecture and tutorial)
Description This course, consisting of a lecture and an accompanying tutorial, deals with test theoretical basics of psychological assessment.
Within the framework of item-response theory (IRT), the Rasch model is discussed in detail. Requirements of the Rasch model (such as local stochastic independence or model conformity) as well as implications and advantages (such as sufficient statistics and adaptive testing) are explained.
Beside IRT, measurement models are conveyed such as the congeneric, tau-equivalent, or parallel model in the framework of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Possible kinds of measurement invariance are addressed and their meaning for test fairness. The multitrait-multimethod approach is presented as a tool to investigate method effects in diagnostic instruments.
Construction and application of criterion-oriented tests, primarily used in educational and clinical psychology, are discussed together with challenges such as the setting of cut-off-scores and IRT use in this context. Finally, the current state of diagnostic possibilities through machine learning and Big Data is summarized.
The accompanying tutorial consists of a digital and a classroom part. In the digital part, students respond to questions on the lecture's subject matter and learn how to make basic computations for IRT, confirmatory factor analysis, and criterion-oriented testing in R studio. Using formative assessments, students probe their level of knowledge and obtain information on their strengths and weaknesses as well as possibilities to get more information.
