Title |
Insights into typical and atypical development in selected functional areas |
Description |
Content: The aim of the seminar is to provide an overview of key developmental topics, covering various important functional areas and disorders of these functional areas - primarily in childhood and adolescence. Planned topics include reading/writing and reading/spelling disorders; motor skills & circumscribed developmental disorders of motor functions; attention & ADHD; social development & disorders of social behaviour; attachment & attachment disorders; etc. Basic and expert texts serve as a working basis. Co-determination in the precise organisation of the topics and further freedom of choice and creativity are important characteristics of the seminar. In small groups, students will first analyse a topic of their choice. Relevant theoretical and research papers are read, summarised and initially discussed within the small group together with the lecturer. The respective topics are then discussed together with all seminar participants. In this part of the seminar, the focus is therefore on gaining knowledge and understanding of the topics covered for the entire seminar group. A further focus of the seminar is then on the consideration of a possible research design that could contribute fruitfully to the respective topic. This design may be put into practice in a small group format in the last part of the seminar in the form of a small pilot study. In the last session of the seminar, the results will be discussed in plenary.
Requirements: (1) Reading the relevant (mostly English-language) texts. (2) Organisation of a discussion round in the small group. The presentations given in the discussion group are not graded, but must reach the "pass" level. The presentation slides in PowerPoint format are graded (33% of the overall grade) (3) Regular and active participation, maximum 2 missed appointments. The own discussion date and the presentation dates must not be missed under any circumstances. (4) Writing a study protocol in a small group (graded, 67% of the overall grade). The final examination consists of writing a study protocol on a question that has been worked out independently in small groups during the seminar and investigated on a small sample.
Basic literature: The basic and presentation literature will be announced in the introductory session.
Enrolment: Registration takes place via the KSL, is binding and cannot be cancelled or changed.
Study focus: The work completed in the seminar is recognised for a Master's module in Developmental Psychology (15, 30 or 45 ECTS) and as compulsory elective work. |
