Root number 453730
Semester HS2024
Type of course Group Laboratory
Allocation to subject Pharmaceutical Bachelor
Type of exam not defined
Title Lab Course Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry
Description The laboratory will cover a series of topics involving both dry and wet practical classes. Students will be generally working in pairs.
• In-silico modelling will be discussed as a tool to assist in drug design and mode of actions. Selected drug molecules will be used as examples to probe binding of the biological target. (dry practical)
• Flow Chemistry experiment (sustainable approach to synthesis) (wet practical)
• Synthesis of selected pharmaceuticals (short multi step synthesis) (wet practical)
• Separation of complex mixtures based on functionalities (wet practical)
• Identification of pharmaceuticals and adulterated pharmaceuticals through a series of analytical techniques (dry/wet practical)
• Drug partitioning in aqueous and organic solvents (log P) (wet and dry)
• Testing of antimicrobials (wet practical)
• Use of UV spectroscopy to determine unknown amounts of pharmaceuticals
