Description |
Block course according to special programme. 12.08.24 - 16.08.24. Teaching language English if requested by students.
Overview on diversity and systematics of parasitic wasps. Introduction to biology, host relationships and environmental requirements, use in biological control of pest insects, etc. One day excursion in the Alps (Valais). Identification of collected material to family level. Introduction to and practicing of methods for collecting, mounting, conservation as well as digital multifocus-imaging. Identification to species level on a selected group (genus, species group). Establishment of a reference collection.
For the identification of families an interactive computer key will be available (based on the xper3 software, in English). Furthermore a script (100 p., in German) will be provided; for English speaking participants, Goulet & Huber (1993) “Hymenoptera of the World” and Gauld & Bolton (1988) „The Hymenoptera“ is recommended; identification literature for various groups will be provided. |
