Title |
Habits and Health: Theory, Measurement, Intervention |
Description |
Habits are a key influence on behavior as well as our health and well-being. While classic theories of health behavior change focus on explicit social cognitions, habit research is dedicated to the role of automatic, situational influences on behavior. In this seminar, habit theory, measurement methods, and behavior change interventions based on habit theory in the context of health and well-being are discussed (e.g. regarding physical activity, substance abuse).
Students read a provided peer-reviewed article about the topic weekly, which provides the basis for discussion. In groups, students prepare and lead a seminar session about a selected topic of habit research. They will also apply their knowledge of habit theory in a pilot research study to promote habit formation or disruption. |
