Title Ecology Lecture Series
Description The Ecology Lecture Series is for third year biology students and master students in ecology and evolution. It aims to introduce students to current and emerging topics in ecology by bringing the world’s leading ecologists to Bern to share their exciting research with students and researchers at the IEE and IPS. It is a joint initiative from the Terrestrial Ecology Group (Institute of Ecology & Evolution, IEE) and the Community Ecology Group (Institute of Plant Sciences, IPS). One of our main aims in this lecture series is to highlight the ecological research done across scales (from microcosms to the world), across organisms (microorganisms, plants and animals) and across systems (aquatic and terrestrial). Students will be encouraged to explore the links and connections between ecological research conducted in these different systems and at different scales. We will invite ecologists who do fundamental ecological research aiming to better understand the impact of global environmental problems on our ecosystems, so that better mitigation and restoration strategies can be devised. Speakers will give lectures of 45-60 minutes followed by a 45-60 minute discussion.
