Introduction to Microbial Ecology and Evolution |
Description |
Open to all BSc 3rd year, MSc and doctoral students in biology. Registration deadline 15 September in KSL. Registration is binding.
This course aims to introduce biology students to the field of microbial ecology and evolution. The specific goals are to 1) become familiar with the language of microbial ecology and evolution, 2) obtain an appreciation for the diversity and complexity of microbial communities, 3) understand the interplay between ecology and evolution in microbial communities, 4) understand the importance of space in controlling ecological and evolutionary processes, and 5) recognize the importance of microbial communities for biotechnology, environmental sustainability, and health and disease. The course is based on lectures. No text book is required. |
