MCID Colloquium: what is pandemic preparedness? |
Description |
The MCID Colloquium "What is pandemic preparedness?" will be an interactive series of 8 sessions seeking to answer this question from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Seven sessions will consist of a 45 minute seminar from a subject expert, to be followed by a 45 minute practical exercise (computer or discussion-based). The seven sessions will reflect the seven discipline clusters that interact together within the structure of the MCID, and will cover aspects such as:
Epidemiology: How does surveillance work in a pandemic and how do we analyse the effect of interventions?
Neglected Diseases: Are there neglected diseases that pose a pandemic threat?
Patient-Focused Research: What are the requirements and challenges for patient-oriented research in a pandemic?
Immunity: From Blueprint to Lifesaver: Navigating Vaccine Development in a Pandemic
Economics: Forces of supply and demand –Why do they continue to mess us up?
Microbiology: Can we predict which pathogens might cause a pandemic?
Society and Law: What ethical aspects need to be considered in pandemic policy making? How can scientific findings influence policy during a pandemic?
Minimum attendance requirement 85% (6 out of 7 colloquia). Minimum number of participants: 15 |
