Title The Influence of Life Events on Personality Development
Description Do life events have the potential to bring about fundamental changes in the personality structure of individuals? In the general population, there are numerous ideas about the influence that critical life events can have on personality development. Do people who have a child become more conscientious? Does divorce influence extraversion? In the seminar, these questions are examined from a scientific perspective and discussed. Both normative life events such as starting a new job and non-normative events such as traumatic experiences across the lifespan will be examined. The focus is on the relevant theories, concepts and empirical findings on the personality changes that can be caused by significant life events. In addition, the seminar aims to provide participants with methodological approaches and promote critical thinking that enable them to argue based on scientific evidence.
Requirements: (1) Readings (homework). (2) Regular and active attendance (max. 2 meetings may be missed). (3) Leading a discussion group. (4) Passing a final written exam (graded).
