Title |
BA/MA Sachbereichs-/Regionalübung: My body, my capital? About the culture of self-optimization. |
Description |
If you sign in for the course you are automatically signed in for the exam!
Norbert Elias addresses its civilization, Foucault describes its disciplining, Bourdieu is concerned with its class-specific formation. For some, it is considered the product of social reality, others describe it as the producer of this social reality. Historically, as well as currently, it is always at the center of social change: our body. In this course, we will look at the body as part of an economic culture. The focus will be on different anthropological perspectives on the body, body techniques and, finally, the systematic modification of the body. We will reflect this modification (or optimization?) from a critical perspective and question the way in which self-optimization can be understood as a neoliberal practice. |
