Title |
MA Seminar: The political ecology of carbon pricing |
Description |
If you sign in for the course, you also signed for the exam, no further registration for the exam is needed.
The course examines theories of distribution, technomodernism, economic performativity and climate justice and will discuss them in relation to carbon pricing in the Anthropocene. Students will gain an understanding of the different ways in which carbon pricing is currently being carried out, from voluntary markets to compliance mechanisms. They will learn about the legal frameworks and institutions which regulate them, and we will together examine the underlying rationales of the actors seeking to promote them. This course aims to take a critical approach to carbon pricing, by questioning the unequal distributive effects of such schemes and their place in the current dominant policy paradigm of tackling climate change within the framework of Green Growth. As such, it also touches upon the role of emissions trading within the so-called Green Economy. |
