Title |
“Histories of Conflicts and Conflict Transformation in the Former Soviet Space: Socio-Psychological Aspects” |
Description |
This seminar offers to examine the historical evolution of multiple conflicts in the former Soviet space from the early 1990s from an inter-disciplinary perspective, paying particular attention at the role of socio-psychological factors in violent conflicts. The first part of the course will introduce theoretical and conceptual approaches focusing on the role of historical memories, “chosen traumas”, emotions and other socio-psychological factors in violent conflicts and will also introduce the approaches to conflict mitigation and transformation. The second part of the class will examine several empirical cases including Russia (including North Caucasus), Georgia and Ukraine. During the last part of the course, the students will have the opportunity to put into practice the learned theoretical and conceptual approaches by developing their own research papers and presenting and discussing them in class. |
