Title |
PhD Seminar: Quantitative Economic History |
Description |
The aim of this course is to introduce PhD students to the common econometric approaches and data sets used in conducting quantitative (empirical) economic history research. Particular emphasis will be placed on the creation and use of data from historical sources and the understanding of the historical contexts of their sources, as well as outlining the challenges and the implications for econometric/statistical analysis and interpretation. Evaluation will be based on a critical assessment of an unpublished, existing quantitative economic history paper, and the presentation and writing of a research proposal of a quantitative economic history topic that entails the use of data.
