Description In the course "Digital Tools and Language Documentation," students will learn the concepts and skills necessary to organize and conduct a computer-assisted language documentation. The course covers a range of essential topics for understanding and using the various software resources available to linguists documenting a language: from annotation practices and how to actually elaborate an annotation scheme, to norms, conventions, and practices to structure a corpus a language documentation corpus. Key software for doing linguistic documentation, such as ELAN for annotating, Praat for phonetic analysis, Flex for lexicography, will also be introduced so that students can apply the concepts they will learn through the course.
