Description |
This course covers the design, development, and implementation of Excel-based decision support systems using various techniques from business analytics. The first part of the course consists of lectures and exercises, including an introduction to programming in Visual Basic for Applications, and a project; the latter consists of the development and implementation of a decision support system for a given planning situation.
Prerequisites are the knowledge of linear optimization and mixed-integer linear optimization discussed in the undergraduate course "Quantitative Methods in Business Administration". In particular, students should be able to implement a given optimization model in Microsoft Excel, use the solver add-in to find an optimal solution, and interpret the results.
