Lecture: Theatre History 1: Early Forms |
| Description |
With this lecture on early theatrical forms, the theatre history cycle starts anew. For decades, German-language theatre historiography was shaped by the narrative that "theatre" originated in Greek antiquity. This Eurocentric perspective is now being problematised and critically reflected upon.
At the start of the theatre history lecture cycle, insights into the history of theatre historiography will be given and current works on theatre historiography, their methods and theoretical foundations will be presented.
After an overview of (mostly) non-European early theatrical forms, the lecture series is dedicated in depth to ancient Greek and Roman theatre practice, its drama and the intertwining of politics, religion and theatre. |
