Description Work design is a central topic in work and organizational psychology. The way work is structured, organized, and experienced shapes employee motivation, well-being, and performance, as well as broader organizational outcomes. Established theoretical frameworks provide systematic approaches to conceptualizing work characteristics and to analyzing how they function within organizations.

This seminar examines contemporary work contexts through central theories of work design. Within these theoretical frameworks, the seminar addresses topics such as work engagement and burnout, proactivity and performance expectations, work-related identity and meaningful work, and hybrid work arrangements. The seminar focuses on how existing theories guide the conceptualization of these phenomena and how empirical findings are interpreted in relation to well-being and organizational outcomes.

The seminar will be held in English and combines the acquisition of core theoretical knowledge on work design with the analytical and critical examination of contemporary work contexts. Students have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills through readings, structured exercises, and two final assignments. All coursework is to be presented in English.
