Social Psychopharmacology |
| Description |
This lecture provides an introduction to social psychopharmacology through selected topics. It starts with an introduction to the fundamentals of chemical neural signaling, followed by an introduction to the basic concepts of pharmacology. Subsequently, the recreational use of psychotropic substances is distinguished from substance use disorder from phenomenological, clinical-diagnostic, and neurobiological perspectives. Subsequently, the pharmacological properties and effects on social cognition of the following substances are presented: alcohol, opioids, cannabinoids, stimulants, MDMA, ketamine, and LSD. For all substances, the potential for addiction is discussed; for some, the potential for cognitive enhancement or therapeutic potential is also addressed. |
