| Title |
Behavior Change during the Transition to Parenthood |
| Description |
This seminar is a four-day intensive course.
The transition to parenthood is a pivotal stage of life during which the health behaviours of individuals and couples often undergo fundamental changes. Nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management and substance use, for example, are extremely important for short-term and long-term physical and mental health, as well as for well-being. However, these changes rarely occur in isolation at the individual level; rather, they are frequently embedded in a dyadic context in which partners influence, support or even put pressure on one another.
This block seminar focuses on theoretical approaches and empirical findings regarding changes in various relevant health behaviours during pregnancy and the postpartum period (e.g. physical activity, diet, sleep, stress management, substance use, pelvic floor exercises), with a particular focus on the dyadic (couple) context. In addition, existing intervention approaches aimed at promoting healthy behaviours during this life phase will be critically discussed.
Working in small groups, students will lead a session on a topic of their choice relating to health behaviour during the transition to parenthood. In addition, they will write a scientific blog entry offering practical recommendations for a specific target audience. Active participation in the seminar and preparation through reading the assigned literature are essential.
The block seminar takes place over 4 days:
Day 1: Introduction and Fundamentals
Day 2: Area of application health behaviors I (pregnancy)
Day 3: Area of application health behaviors II (postpartum)
Day 4: Workshop & Conclusion |
