Vertiefungskurs/Aufbaukurs/Ergänzungskurs LW II/Komparatistik (Dürrenmatt Gastprofessur): Narrating the Other: Race and Representation |
| Description |
Inspired by Toni Morrison’s lectures in 2016, on ‘the literature of belonging’, the zimbabwean writer Petina Gappah will lead a seminar series entitled “Narrating the Other: Race and Representation in Selected Works.” The series invites students to interrogate race and representation in selected works of fiction where the author narrates the stories, voices or experiences of characters and subjects of race different to their own. Who gets to write “the other”? And who gets to respond? Can a white writer write in the voice of a black character and vice versa? And does it really matter?
