Title |
Environmental Policy II: Science Policy Interface |
Description |
When it comes to tackling major challenges such as climate change or biodiversity loss, academia faces the challenge of providing evidence on the problems and potential solutions while informing policymakers about both the available knowledge and the uncertainties that remain. In this seminar, we will discuss the following topics related to the science-policy interface.
>> Types of science-policy interfaces
>> Role scientists can play at the science-policy interface
>> Addressees of scientific evidence
>> Democratic implications when scientists engage in politics
In the first part of the semester, we will discuss these topics based on literature and examples from the fields of climate change, biodiversity conservation, pesticide risk reduction, and sustainable food systems. In the second part, students choose one of the overarching topics presented to them in the first part. They will then apply it to their preferred/new case or topic of choice. The task will be to animate a session with readings and exercises. Students then have to develop a policy engagement plan and present it in a poster presentation in the final session of the semester.
